Mohamed Makha

BSc(Hons), MSc, PhD, MRACI CCHEM

Expertise

Organic/inorganic chemical synthesis, surfactants synthesis based on macrocylic and polymeric materials, nanoparticles formation of various materials (SDP technology), nano-filters and nano-porous materials, crystal engineering of ionic molecular solids, toxicity of surfactants and nanoparticles, charactrisation techniques (FTIR, UV-vis, Dynamic light scattering, Chromatography, NMR and X-ray diffraction). Contribution to the Centre: Synthesis and characterisation of nano-materials, fundamental and applied research of bioactive nanoparticles, participation in seminars, workshops and various activities of the centre.

  • Biopolymer stabilised magnetic nano-particles (with Colin Raston)
  • Carotenoid and fullerenes nano-particles (with Colin Raston)
  • Modified biopolymers for stabilising nano-particles (with Colin Raston, Marck Norrett)
  • New generation surfactants based on phosphonated calixarenes (with Colin Raston)
  • Polymer nanoparticles as reaction media and exchange resins
  • Toxicity assessment of surfactant calixarenes (with Colin Raston)

  • ARC Discovery, ‘Confinement of Space Based on Water Soluble Calixarenes’, with Colin Raston and Allan White: $190,000/year 2004 - 2006.
  • UWA Research Grant ‘ Metal recovery, water decontamination and catalysts for chemical reactions using natural bioplymers’ $16,000/ 2005.
